CASE STUDY 1 : The rescue of a child

Butai Devi is vice- president of CPC committee Bimauri village. Though she did not have any primary education, she is active member of committee. After her exposure in several meetings of community level CPC, she was transformed into a highly sensitized member always working for the cause of children. One morning while she was going to work in field, she noticed that two persons were forcefully taking a boy named Prahlad, aged 13 years, of her own village. His both hands were tied with a rope on a bicycle and the boy was screaming for help. She asked those persons to stop immediately and went to them to know the matter. On enquiry, she found that the father of child had borrowed some money from Rajmani Pal of a distant village Dighuli. As the father of child had failed to repay the loan, so Rajmani wanted to take Prahlad with him as a bonded labour.. Butai Devi was deeply hurt at the plight of the child. She appealed to the Rajmani to free the child but he did not accepted her request. But, when Butai Devi warned him that it is a crime and hence this matter will be reported to the police, then only Prahlad was freed.
